Do you find yourself gazing longingly at interior shots of those homes by the lake or beach and thinking, "if only..."? Well, I know you can create that look with little money, some effort, and a bit of courage.
In 2009, I found myself newly divorced, leaving behind all the furniture I loved, a house I thought would make everything better, and my personal belongings. I furnished my rental mainly with big box DIY store-bought items. And they quickly fell apart.
At the same time I had begun a new routine: hitting estate and garage sales with my friends on Saturday mornings. With my background in interior design, I could see the potential in the cast aside, but well-crafted items on sale. I began to stockpile furniture and accessories to paint and sell.
I started using latex paints because they were available for free at my local recycle center. But the prep was too limiting, time-consuming, and not fun. Enter Annie Sloan Chalk Paint ® and achieving that dreamy vintage rustic look in little time.
Ten years later, I continue to purchase, repurpose, and reclaim beautifully crafted items and I sell my curated pieces, along with accessories and Annie Sloan paint, at Summer Cottage, an anchor antique shop in historic Petaluma, California.
As a retailer of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint ®, I also teach classes in my art studio in nearby Novato.
